Provides services and supports to people of all ages who have a developmental disability. The goal of all services is to help people to learn skills that assist them to participate effectively and become integrated in t
their community.
Program Investment by United Way:
1. Life Skills Development
Classes offered include computer literacy, nutrition, cooking, smart shopping, first aid, money management and street safety. Programs are offered at various times to accommodate people who have other commitments such as school or work. Often, the abilities of people with a developmental disability are underestimated. Life skill programs assists people with developmental disabilities to make the most of their abilities and as a result increase their independence.
2. Prep for the Future
This program is designed to meet the needs of transitional aged youth ( 14 – 20 years of age) with developmental disabilities. It builds on the holistic supports that have been delivered to the individual at through Community Living. Some of the skills taught include: meeting individual goals, street safety, money management, nutrition/healthy eating, first aid, stress management and numeracy. The goal is to maximize independence and enabling the fullest participatin in community life for each individual.
