United Way of St. Catharines and District provides funds to charities providing human care services in the municipalities of St. Catharines, Thorold,
Niagara-on-the-Lake, Lincoln, Grimsby and West Lincoln.
Each year, United Way examines one of its three main priority areas in detail and makes funding decisions for the following three years.
1. Nurturing Independence
Increasing the capacity of individuals to care for themselves and their families.
This priority area supports those living with various disabilities and encourages independence and self sufficiency. Examples of programs that achieve these outcomes include support groups, rehabilitation and training programs and information and referral services. Requests for funding will be accepted in this category until March 2010. Applications will be sent to programs fitting this priority area- contact Nancy Di Pasquale at (905) 688-5050, ext. 104 for details.
2. Building Communities
Developing communities that have the skills and resources to create healthy and supportive environments in which to live. This priority area supports those with basic needs- such as food, clothing and shelter. The priority also funds training programs to assist people in overcoming barriers. Examples of programs that achieve these outcomes include: employment and training opportunities, crisis support and intervention to victims (crime/domestic). No requests for funding will be accepted in this category until January 2011.
3. Strengthening Families and Children
This priority area focuses on assisting children, youth and families in acquiring the skills and experiences that encourage inclusion, support and development. Examples of programs that achieve these outcomes include: those delivering programs that foster growth and development, programs assisting families to cope with crisis and counseling programs that support individuals in becoming contributing members of the community. Programs applying for funding through United Way must demonstrate community need, avoid duplication and communicate realistic program outcomes. No requests for funding will be accepted until January 2012.
To obtain the application and/or learn more about the application process, please contact Nancy Di Pasquale, Director of Community Investment and Communications at (905) 688-5050, ext. 104.
