What is Winter Warmth?
Winter Warmth is coordinated by a network of community agencies through United Way. Two major utility partners make up this program - Enbridge Gas Distribution Inc. and Horizon Utilities. United Way acts as the trustee of the funds and oversees the coordination of the Winter Warmth Program. The lead organization, Community Care of St. Catharines and District, provides the front line administrative functions, such as verifying income of applicants, processing requests and reporting to bi-weekly stats to United Way.
Supporting Local Families and Individuals
In 2009-2010, the Winter Warmth Program is providing energy assistance grants totaling $49,000 to support families who qualify. In order to qualify for the Winter Warmth program, a household must hold an account with either Enbridge Gas or Horizon Utilities. Households must provide verification that their account is in errars, in danger of being disconnected or are experiencing personal circumstances that make it difficult to pay for the utility bill.
